Moving Guides

If you’re moving a new or used hot tub, there are some important factors to consider to ensure a smooth transport – and it is always worth considering hiring a professional that knows how to move a hot tub properly. Although most companies will not deliver and install your hot tub for you, some may offer backyard delivery. Whatever level of service of you choose, you will need to clean out a level area where your hot tub can be dropped off before it can be installed.

Shipping a New Hot Tub

A new hot tub will typically come packaged in a crate, or at the very least, on a pallet which allows it to be moved easily and safely. Some hot tub moving companies will offer a “placement service” for an additional fee, where they deliver the tub directly to the spot where it will be installed. If you are interested in this service, make sure that you ask the dealer and the moving company about it before finalizing your transaction. Because of the size and special care needed to move hot tubs, the shipping company may have certain requirements for their placement services, so make sure that you are clear about your needs.

Preparing a Hot Tub for Shipping

When preparing a hot tub to be shipped, take steps to protect your prized relaxation spot. It may be a good idea to acquire an appropriately sized pallet to place the tub on. This will ensure that your hot tub will remain steady and level during shipping and avoid damage from loading and unloading. You will need to completely drain, disconnect, and clean your hot tub and make sure that you cover it for transport. Most moving companies will require you to have the hot tub ready for loading and unloading by your curb or garage. Be sure to speak with your movers and ask them about any special requirements that they may have. If you do not opt for placement services, make sure that you have at least two or three people available to help you move the hot tub into storage or its permanent location.

Before accepting the delivery of your hot tub, make sure to inspect it thoroughly for any damage that may have occurred during transport. For new hot tubs, it will be very difficult to submit a damage claim if you have accepted delivery, so it is important to verify it’s condition before you sign for it. Talk to your transportation provider about the claims process in the unlikely event that there is some damage.
